Runway Report : Alexander Wang | New York Fall 2015 RTW

Alexander Wang: New York Runway | Fall 2015 RTW

“I’ll stop wearing black when they invent a darker colour.”   Wednesday Addams.

One can’t help but think that if Wednesday Addams was a grown-up this is what she would look like in present day. Cool, powerful, mysterious, dark, interesting with a bit of Punk, Goth and Heavy-Metal all mixed up.

I loved this show. I like to be transported, which Alexander Wang does through the uniformity of his models hair ala Marilyn Manson- straightened and slicked over the face combined with the fact that they all wore platform boots affecting a march and certain attitude. The tall models even taller with these boots, had a distinct gait and posture due to the footwear. The boots are definitely that of the Punks, Goths and forerunners of hair bands…KISS.  The shoes look like Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Marilyn Manson co-designed them. They are definitely what I referred to as “KISS Boots” and as Gene Simmons of KISS sings: “You like my seven inch leather heels And goin’ to all of the shows, but, Do you love me, do you love me?”(Written by Berry Gordy Jr.) The answer is YES we love you and we love Alexander Wang’s collection.

I have an affinity for the Metal, Goth, and Hard Rock bands. I also went to school in New York City during this era.  I wore all this.  Alexander Wang’s designs are elevated from the sub cultures of street wear to a higher level through his refinement of: design, fabric, and delicate detailing. I particularly liked the leather fencing/straitjacket silhouettes. The chainmail dress with ever so clever velvet detail and corseting was the most feminine moment. Chains of silver balls strung through the velvet cut outs, which were edgy, yet delicate at the same time.

Another nod to Gene Simmons of KISS was his Demon Bat eye shape seen on the handbags.

KISS’s Fan club is called  “The Kiss Army”; I would love to see Alexander Wang have “The Wang Army” I would become a member!
