Runway Report: Dolce & Gabbana | Milan Spring 2015 RTW

This Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2015 collection looks like a modern-day version of the opera, Carmen. There were many glorious in-CARNATIONS from the Matador’s traditional bullfighting costume, as well as, literal carnations in a large part of the collection. The Matador theme echoed through out each piece of the collection from: jackets, to dresses, to skirts, to shorts. The collection moved to black dresses, which were so feminine and mostly see through, like a sexy lady in mourning who was irresistible down to the lingerie under her dress.

The Christian iconography was so ubiquitous that it needs to be discussed. The “Sacred Heart” and carnations were the motifs throughout the show. It was in either the fabric, or the embellishments. The Latin name for carnations is Dianthus, which translates to: The flowers of God. The red flowers represent love and devotion. The “Sacred Heart” is a flaming heart shining with the divine light and usually signifies love and devotion to humanity. Perhaps there is a secular message here?

The finale was an Armada of models sailing down the runway, all uniformly dressed in tailored white shirts and adorned briefs. As every great opera has a dramatic grand finale, so did this runway show.
