Runway Report: Ralph Lauren Collection | New York Spring 2015

It was Ralph Lauren, straight up, olives with a twist! Olive was Lauren’s neutral canvas in this collection; acting as a backdrop to let the pungently perfect hues of purple, hot pink, yellow and orange shine.

Lauren’s signature cargo, jodhpur, and safari items were all taken to the most elegant level through use of suede, satin and silk, which made it very evening. Another stunning day-to-evening look included a black crewneck sweater topping off a black satin skirt, with a unique corseted laced-up hip detail.

Both the silk and the tulle garments acted as the twist – color.  The all tulle gowns were vibrantly colored.  The silk and tulle’s movement was so fluid down the runway, it was as though they were dreamily floating, but the vibrant colors kept you awake.

I love that the jewelry looks very East Indian meets The Romanovs. The stunning neckpieces meshed into the cascading jewels, which were sewn down the bodice of the garment.

The final look was a satin safari top, which bloomed into a full ball gown. One could envision Lauren reinterpreting a modern day version of the film, The African Queen.
