New York City Ballet Fall GalaNew York Fashion Week may have ended, but the world of fashion will descend once again upon Lincoln Center on September 23rd at the New York City Ballet’s Fall Gala.

For the past 3 years, designers have collaborated with chorographers for the New York City Ballet Fall Gala.  This year, a total of 5 Designers have collaborated with 5 choreographers to design costumes for this season’s debut. Valentino Garavani was the first designer to collaborate with choreographers three years ago; his 2012 designs for Christopher Wheeldon’s This Bitter Earth will be in this program.

Also this year, Carolina Herrera designed new costumes for Peter Martins’ Morgen, which was first produced in 2001.  Thom Browne designed for Troy Schumacher’s Clearing Dawn, which is his main stage debut at the New York City Ballet. Sarah Burton, of Alexander McQueen, designed for British Choreographer Liam Scarlett’s world premier of Funérailles.  Mary Katranzou collaborated on Belles-Lettres with Justin Peck, NYCB’s Resident Choreographer.  Instead of “visions of sugarplums”, I have visions of couture dancing in my head.
