There are two distinct trends that carried over from New York Fashion Week to London Fashion Week. One could say New York and London are…Birds of a feather that flock together! Another trend from New York to London were the designs which were “speaking in volumes.”
Feathers
At New York Fashion Week feathers featured frequently in the shows of Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and Prabal Gurung and many others. It was the same story at London Fashion Week. Feathers were so widely used and some feathers, like Mary Katrantzou’s designs, were also ruffled! Feathers had many incarnations. Richard Malone pulled apart feathers creating patterns on fabric, as well as, accessorizing with leather & feather opera length gloves. Huishan Zhang used the feathers to create borders and patterns and also showed completely feathered garments. Jenny Peckham used them in an ethereal way to create very delicate details. A large part of Mary Katrantzou’s collection took the feathers to the next level making a large part of the collection all feather garments. She also incorporated color blocking, which combined with the feather texture was a showstopper! These and other Designers looks are below. This feather trend seems to have wings and has flown off to other countries!

Turn up The Volume!
Another trend, which took a trip across the pond from New York Fashion Week over to London Fashion Week is volume. From the silhouette to the proportions to the prints. Molly Goddard worked wonders with tulle which was sheared and layered to create volume and design. Erdem gave us large patterns and larger silhouettes. Simone Rocha gave us exaggerated lines and billowy arms. The most avant-garde was JW Anderson’s designs, which looked more sculptural and architectural. A feminine take on volume can be seen in Emilia Wickstead’s gorgeous gowns. These and many other Designers looks can be seen below.
